On Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15h June, Lucton hosted the DC Beagle Mathematics Challenge. There were 6 visiting schools to the Year 5 Challenge bringing a total of 16 teams. Memorial Hall was buzzing with shape puzzles, conundrums, number games and even a demonstration of mathematical magic! All the children were thoroughly engaged and a Lucton team of Edwin Stevens and Reuben Yates secured first place. The first time we had won a Beagle Challenge. On Thursday was the turn of the Year 4 pupils, amid 7 visiting schools comprising 21 teams, the atmosphere was again energised. More puzzles to solve and lots of smiling faces. Again, success for Lucton School, the team made up of Elodie Ibbs and Jacob Philips gained first place, no mean feat against some very competitive opposition. It was an exhilarating couple of days with many pupils gaining a new and exciting outlook on mathematics.
